Artist's Comments

Walking along Lake Michigan towards the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. The walk and buildings were massive, giving it an otherworldly appearance, I thought.

Critiques

This photo really stands out to me. The black & white tones work well, and exposure is very good. It has a sense of motion and depth, due to the pedestrians and the perspective of the lines (which also serve to lead the eye into the frame). f/8 was a decent choice, providing good depth of field and being the "sweet spot" for many lenses.

The major change I would suggest is cropping out much of the sky. Right now the horizon is about midway in the frame. Go by the Rule of Thirds and put it 1/3 of the way from the top. All you lose is sky and clouds. The pedestrians will then be perfectly positioned.

If you take a similar shot again, you might go for f/16 or so (based on the shutter speed, you had plenty of light) to get even more depth of field. You might also focus further into the scene. (There's a rule of thumb for hyperfocal distance, but I don't remember the details.)

Nice work!
